The Triple Helix at Arizona State University

Open Positions

The following positions are available for the Fall 2009 to Spring 2010 year, although we are willing to work on a semester-by-semester basis. If you are interested in applying to any of these positions, please contact either David Edwards (DKEdwards005@gmail.com), our President; or Adam Gunderson (adam@asutriplehelix.org), our Editor in Chief.

Contributing Writer

Undergraduate students of all majors are encouraged to become a contributing writer for the Science and Society journal. This journal is an academic research publicatoin produced twice a semester. It features articles written and edited entirely by undergraduate students, many of whom attend Arizona State University.

Contributing writers are expected to follow the guidelines and deadlines established by the Editor in Chief and the Managing Editor. While finished articles are not confined to a specific page length, they should be well-written, engaging, and thoroughly researched. Contributing writers are expected to meet deadlines throughout the semester and be open-minded to suggestions made by editors on improving their article.

To have an article considered for publication, please submit an abstract online at abstracts@asutriplehelix.org. Abstracts must be 250 words or less and must explore some connection between science, society, business, laws, and ethics.

For the Spring 2010 literary cycle, the abstract deadline is October 5th, 2009.

Associate Editor

Undergraduate students of all majors are encouraged to apply for this position. The time commitment is only a few hours each month, and no previous editing experience is necessary!

Associate editors are responsible for: editing approximately three articles for content, grammar, sentence structure, and citations; being in constant communication with the Editor in Chief and Managing Editor during the literary cycle; and maintaining strict deadlines throughout the process.

Editors must be able to recognize common grammatical and spelling mistakes, provide constructive feedback to the writers, and distinguish between "credible" and "noncredible" sources.

Podcast Editor

We are looking for undergraduates with strong experience with sound editing software to edit our new podcast series, "The Triple Helix Forum." The time commitment is a couple hours per month, but may vary depending on the length and complexity of individual episodes.

The podcast is currently managed by Ellen Dupont and assisted by David Edwards. The Podcast Editor will be editing around five or six episodes every semester, including making improvements to two episodes that have already been recorded. Each podcast recording is 15 or 20 minutes, and needs to be shortened and condensed to approximately 10 minutes.
